John Kinsella has been unashamedly prolific, having published a dozen collections while still in his 30s. Unafraid to take on a wide range of styles, subjects and poetic challenges, Kinsella has attracted critical flak in Australia as well as admiration for his achievement and risk-taking. Poems 1980-1994 shows his much-discussed range, moving from landscape poems and 'anti-pastorals', through to poems that construct alternative mythologies, poems on art, and experimental works such as Syzygy and Skeleton weed / generative grammar. The selection draws on books including Night Parrots, Eschatologies, Full Fathom Five and Wireless Hill. His latest collection, The Hunt, is published by Bloodaxe simultaneously with Poems 1980-1994, while The Silo: A Pastoral Symphony is available separately from Arc.
