Renzo Piano has been one of the innovative forces in contemporary architecture. His long-standing work in High-Tech architecture ist both characterized by "an ironical look at technology" - as he said about the Pompidou Centre -, and by his love of material and detail, "the art of making". This volume shows projects and built works of the last eight years. It includes the museum for the Menil Collection in Houston, the Bari Football Stadium, the conversion of the Fiat Lingotto Auto Works in Turin, the Kansai Airport in Osaka, and also his major urban redevelopment schemes or Potsdamer Platz in Berlin and the area around the Pompidou Centre. A total of 33 buildings and projects are presented in full detail. A comprehensive catalogue of works in the appendix extends back to 1964, and in conversation with Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani, the architect speaks of his design approach and the influences which have stamped and inspired his work.
