This textbook introduces principles of population ecology, with special emphasis on applications in natural resource management, conservation biology and wildlife management. Most of the exercises at the end of each chapter us RAMAS EcoLab software with real data on the dynamics of endangered species, recovering populations, harvested species and human populations. Practical problems facing ecologists, conservation biologists and natural resource managers require incorporation of variability into models of population dynamics. The novel approach of using software instead of analytical methods has allowed the authors to incorporate this important concept form early on, in a way that is simple enough to be understood by undergraduate students without strong mathematical backgrounds.
