In 1989, Hydro-Québec endorsed the concept of sustainable development, which has gradually been incorporated into the utility's activities. To make this concept a concrete reality, Hydro-Québec has adopted certain orientations. Consequently, making environmental concerns an integral part of the planning process, managing impacts associated with the construction of generating and transmission facilities and those related to electrical distribution and facility operations, and evaluating the utility's environmental performance constitute the principal strategic environmental orientations in this report. It looks at the concepts of integrating environmental concerns and managing environmental and social impacts. An evaluation of Hydro-Québec's environmental performance concludes the document.
