Contains a detailed analysis of homicide in Australia for the period from 1 July 1989 to 30 June 1996. It analyses the characteristics of the homicide incidents as well as those of the victim and the offender. The incidence of homicide as well as the factors associated with its occurrence have a pattern that is consistent over the period under study. This also applies to the victims and the offenders. These results have profound implications for public policy in the field of violence prevention.
