This is an out-of-print, limited-edition exhibition catalog of the mix-media / performance artist and composer Laurie Anderson's first American museum retrospective. Curator Janet Kardon chronicles Anderson's creative rise from her 1960's days studying art at Barnard College and Columbia University, to the creation of her early staged performances, interactive sculptures, film / video pieces, first experimental recordings, with the critical writings for Artforum, and her participatory presence in New York's downtown artistic scene of the 1970's. Essays on the 1981 hit single "O Superman", her 1982 album "Big Science, and the 1983 performance and recording "United States" concludes this historical document. This art book is complete with the artist's time-line, index, bibliography, and is lavishly illustrated with beautiful 4-colors and black & white reproductions handsomely printed on glossy paper stock.
