The fifth volume of the annual Index to International Public Opinion contains data drawn from surveys conducted and/or referenced in most parts of the world. The 1982-1983 edition covers public reaction to events such as the Iranian hostage crisis, the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. It contains a significantly greater number of tables than previous volumes, presenting breakdowns by demographics such as age, sex, race, religion, education, and economic level, among others. Almost 30 new topical subcategories have been added. The section on Multinational Surveys contains an extraordinary study, Fundamental Values: A Global Perspective, including close to 100 tables. The subject index has been enhanced to provide greater access to the contents of the volume.
