The purpose of this book is to relate the personal experiences of a group of professionals and their families who left Vietnam at the end of the War to start a new life abroad. Their journeys occurred at different times, under different circumstances, and were associated with different levels of peril and difficulty, thus the plural for ¿Mayflower¿. As witnesses of historical events of global impact, the writers were asked to relate as factually as possible their story in the style and language most apt to reflect their feelings and purpose. ¿The Mayflowers of 1975¿ is about growing up within a culturally and spiritually vibrant South Vietnamese society, about a uniquely challenging and enriching wartime medical education, about abandoning the only world and life that one ever knew, about embarking onto a dangerous and unpredictable odyssey, and most importantly about the poignant rebuilding of personal and professional lives. This endeavor is designed to provide a historic document written by people who actually lived the events for future reference.
