In the summer of 1970, three friends from New York City depart on a trip across the United States to California in a VW Microbus, an experience common for many of the Boomer generation. This memoir provides a glimpse of the author's youth and friendships growing up in Brooklyn during the 1950s and 1960s. It describes how the culture of the country as the 1960s comes to a close and the history of the road trip and its place in the American character played a role in the decision to make the cross-country journey. Their experiences with the people they meet on the journey show a side of America that is warm and accepting and in many ways runs counter to the image of an era fraught with societal conflict and tensions. The book includes photos from the author's archives as well as maps and additional illustrations.
