
James Francis Dwyer (1874-1952) was an Australian author. He began working as a publisher's clerk in Sydney, then in various post offices around New South Wales as a letter-carrier and postal assistant. He was imprisoned for forgery, and served 3 years of a 7 year sentence in Goulburn Jail. Some of his poems and short stories began appearing in the Bulletin, and he turned to journalism. He moved to London and then to New York where he contributed stories to Harper's Bazaar, Collier's and other popular magazines of the day. His first novel was The White Waterfall (1912). He continued to travel and write and eventually settled in France. His other works include: The Spotted Panther (1914), Breath of the Jungle (1915), The Green Half-Moon (1915), O Splendid Sorcery (1930), Evelyn: Something More Than a Story (1931), The Romantic Quest of Peter Lamonte (1932), Cold-Eyes (1934), Hespamora (1935), The Lady With Feet of Gold (1937), The City of Cobras (1938) and Leg-Irons on Wings (1949).
