A text designed to be used alone or with other texts or case material in courses that consider human behavior and environmental relationships cross culturally. Introductory chapters overview the study of human behavior and related theory in evolution, ecology, and politics. Later chapters cover adaptive strategies including foraging, nomadic pastoralism, and industrial society. Case studies are presented in contemporary settings, and each case is tied to larger issues of cultural transformation and change. Includes b&w photos.
