Researchers conducted focus groups and interviews with 140 Aboriginal women in 8 sites across Canada to study the barriers created by policies that do not support Aboriginal women in maintaining full cultural lives while pursuing contemporary education and work. Participants offered stories in response to the following questions: What have you experienced in attempting to advance your education and find meaningful work? Have you experienced conflict between realizing your work goals and living a cultural life? What do you recommend in terms of policy changes that would diminish these conflicts? What do you need in a general sense to support coherence between your cultural life and your work life? The stories were analyzed for values, themes and policy recommendations.
