Author Description

From Sunflowers to Growth Patterns is a unit in the Contexts for Learning Mathematics series. It continues the use of two marked dimensions (horizontal and vertical scales), effectively turning value bar comparisons and line plots into more easily readable graphs. Over the course of the unit, these representations develop into line graphs and students compare the strengths of each representation. Students work with data on plant growth, providing an opportunity to integrate mathematics with science studies. This unit is aligned with the Common Core State Standards for grade 4.
