This is the second novel in the trilogy, 'The Jacks'. We continue to follow Detective Sergeant Steve Miller and the other Monkston detectives, the 'Jacks', as they investigate more serious crimes. This time it concerns the disappearance at Christmas of the landlady of the Saracen's Head pub, the Jacks favourite watering hole. The last that's known of her whereabouts is when she went to midnight mass at her local Roman Catholic Church on Christmas Eve.A few days later, between Christmas and New Year, a young student nurse is reported missing from the nurses' home at a Monkston mental hospital. She too is a regular in the congregation at the same RC Church.
