Designed for courses in Social Problems at both the university and college level.The Canadian edition of Social Problems in a Diverse Society focuses on the significance of ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, class, and gender in understanding social problems, both in Canada and around the globe. Throughout the text, people—especially those from marginalized groups—are shown not merely as “victims” of social problems, but as individuals who resist discrimination and inequality and seek to bring about change in families, schools, workplaces, and the larger society. Four primary sociological perspectives (interactionist, functionalist, conflict and feminist) are presented in an inclusive manner within each chapter. Kendall, Nygaard and Thompson, invite students to analyze how social policy reflects the various interests and values of the parties involved.
