If the o be absent after a comparative, the pronoun is not personal but possessive, and in nearly all other cases these forms are either possessive or objective personal pronouns; as E nlungu yandi yingi o neni ye yetu, his canoe is larger than ours; O nfumu o voveli wau kwa ngeye, the king says this to you. 6. But yandi and yau, the personal pronouns of the 3rd person singular and plural, are frequently used immediately before or after nouns which occupy the position of the subject of a sentence, and are either in agreement with them as demonstratives, or in apposition (pleonastically), serving only to repeat the idea of the noun. Occasionally both uses of the word occur in one sentence, the demonstrative and the pleonastic, and sometimes o yandi stands for "this person," as--Yandi muntu diduki. That man is a head man. The Second set of forms are used as subjective pronouns--(1) After the verb or (in the absence of a verb) after the words forming the predicate, as Tu voveli kwetu, we spoke; (2) After the corresponding forms of the first class, as Yetu kwetu tu mindeli, we ourselves are white men.
