The fifth edition of Characteristics of and Strategies for Teaching Students with Mild Disabilities continues to provide professional educators and students of special education alike with clear descriptions of the characteristics of students with mild disabilities along with explanations of the best teaching practices for inclusive education, behavior management, social skill instruction and modifying classroom instruction for students with mild disabilities.Updated information on IDEA ’04 and No Child Left Behind is included, with an emphasis on how these laws affect teaching, assessing, and managing the behavior of students with mild disabilities.The fifth edition has been reorganized to present the overview of mild disabilities earlier in the text (now chapter two). This chapter includes new information on Aspreger’s Syndrome, pervasive developmental delay and non-verbal learning disabilities, as well as expanded information on ADHD. The expanded section on teaching approaches includes differentiated instruction, graphic organizers, multiple intelligence, and testing accommodations. Increased emphasis is provided on preventive discipline and positive behavior supports. And new information on using technology with students with mild disabilities is also added.
