The characteristics of some forest stands tend to make them more susceptible to volume losses from mountain pine beetle infestation. A rating system exists to calculate susceptibility and risk for each stand in a forested area, and the calculation may be done simultaneously on multiple stands if they are represented within a geographic information system (GIS) database. This note describes three Arc/Information Macro Language scripts that GIS professionals can adapt to most forest inventory databases: two susceptibility scripts and a risk script. Results from the use of these scripts to examine susceptibility & risk in areas of British Columbia are included.
