The fifth edition of Mosby's Dictionary set a new standard for English-language medical dictionaries by being the first to offer full-color illustrations throughout. The new fifth edition features over 2,300 illustrations which have been carefully selected to enhance the definitions of a wide variety of medical terms, especially those pertaining to anatomy, equipment, and skin and eye disorders. The illustrations not only add to the dictionary's visual appeal, but also allow for the illustration of many conditions which cannot be shown effectively in black and white. Other strengths of Mosby's Dictionary include the use of a large, easy-to-read typeface, a practical, strict alphabetical organization with no subentries, comprehensive definitions for key entries such as major diseases, disorders and procedures, detailed drug entries, the Color Atlas of Human Anatomy, and the variety of practical reference information included in the appendixes. These features have been retained in the fifth edition along with 5,000 new entries, 400 new illustrations, extensive revisions to existing entries and appendixes, and several new appendixes.
