From AudioFile Part of the BBC's A History of the Twentieth Century in Sound series, this audio production selects important BBC stories from the 1950s and augments them with interesting commentary. What is most remarkable is the audio quality of the archived pieces, which sound as if they were recently produced. The commentary is well written by distinguished historian Joanna Bourke of the University of London and is expertly presented by Tim Pigott-Smith. Pigott-Smith's voice is intelligent and serious without being pedantic. His pace is even, and his tone captures the essence of Bourke's discussions. The events represented tell much about the social life of British citizens. M.L.C. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
