This report has been prepared to provide published information on the lode & placer mining industries in the Yukon during an important part of its history. In this period (1941-59), mining & milling of Elsa and Keno Hill silver & lead ores was begun; significant deposits of copper, nickel, lead, & zinc were discovered; and placer mining activity continued although cost pressures were forcing the industry into decline. Most of the information in the report comes from archival material compiled from reports by mining recorders & other government or industry sources. After a 1941-59 statistical summary, the report consists of chapters covering each year of that period that detail mining activity by district. Information is provided on such matters as mine development & production, prospecting, claim staking, mine employment, expenditures, weather conditions, power generation & transmission, and mine closures.
