This story begins in 1953 because that is the year that Housing Commission homes were first occupied in any significant numbers and when the post office named Inala was opened.Inala, it seems, has developed a tradition of strong and vocal opinion, of frequent dispute - and of mutual support. In 2018, Inala demonstrates wide contrasts - from First Peoples to recent refugees; from Struggle Street to the State Premier; from urban problems to individual successes, from external criticism to local pride. It is one of the most multicultural communities in the nation, with a wide range of activities and support systems - many initiated locally - and a degree of tolerance beyond that of many communities. The development of Inala is a complex, 65-year story. This book presents some samples of that story.
