This survey of the art of the nude in Canada traces the development of a genre that has hitherto been a little known and indeed, neglected facet of this country's art. The works by 55 artists it presents consist of some 130 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and photographs drawn from about thirty institutional and private collections. Often controversially, these artists broke with classical tradition to express themselves more freely, exploring intermits, social and purely formal visions that aligned them with the great modern movements.
