This paper presents the results of an investigation of the industry producing new housing, developing serviced residential land and renovating the existing housing stock in Canada. It examines the industry's current structure, its methods of operation, the financial aspects of its constituent firms and the manner in which the housing industry has changed over the past 40 years.
