This paper examines the relationship between the output of the housing industry and the overall economy in Canada over the 1946-86 period. Topics include the economic role of the housing industry, inter-regional economic linkages associated with the housing industry, cyclical and seasonal variations in housing output and the use of the housing industry as a tool of federal monetary and fiscal policy.
