At the 29th session of the International Olympic Committee in May 1931, committee members awarded the 1936 Olympic games to Germany. The vote symbolized the reintegration of Germany into the international sports community. The summer games were held in Berlin, the winter games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Two years later the Nazi party came to power. Initially, the new government was not enthusiastic about the games, but finally realized the tremendous propaganda value. By 1935 the world had awakened to the Nazi actions & many countries threatened to boycott the games. The American Olympic Committee eventually voted to participate in the games. After the games were over it was agreed that Germany had put on the best-organized Olympic games ever. The cast of characters includes Adolf Hitler, Hermann Goring, Avery Brundage & the great athletes of the 1930's including Jesse Owens & Sonja Henie. This book covers every aspect of both the winter & summer games with over 300 photographs, diagrams & newspaper clippings. Many living participants provided their stories, photos & artifacts. The book is 8 1/2 x 11, softbound, 248 pages with a full-color cover, 12 pages of color & sells for $19.95. Pictorial Histories Publ. Co., Inc., 713 South Third St. W., Missoula, MT 59801. Tel.
