Strange Ports Press is proud to present MANY A DARK FOREST: STORIES OF MADNESS, MELANCHOLY & WONDER (1904-1934), the first ever compilation of stories by George von der Gabelentz available in English, comprising tales from THE WHITE BEAST (Das Weise Tier) (1904), LOST BIRDS (Verflogen Vögel) (1905), SAINTS AND SINNERS (Von Heiligen und Sündern) (1917) and assorted others. It seeks to offer a broad range of the author's work - not just a large selection of the ghost/supernatural/madness stories for which he is noted (such as the obsession of "The Yellow Skull", the doppelganger of "The Other One" and the Alpine specter of "Zecchini") but also an offering of his more wistful, gloomy and philosophical fare (the tragedy of "Broken People", the existential musings of "By The River") and a small selection of his "wonder tales" (including the charming "Night Of The Great Pan" which details a meeting between the Greek god of panic/lust and The Virgin Mary!).
