Excerpt from The Teachers Forum: For Instructors of Blind Children; May, 1928 In the boys' lower school at Perkins We have tried teaching reading by the word method for three years. The child is taught to read a word in braille by running the forefinger of each hand across a word, f'eel ing it as a whole. We believe that time is thus saved in the long run, the interest of the children vastly increased, and reading ability of a superior type achieved - worthy advantages of the word method.
