George Balanchine was just twenty-one in 1925, when he created his first work for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes: Le Chant du Rossignol. Balanchine choreographed dozens of dance pieces before he turned thirty. We have reconstructed five full ballets that were nearly lost to time. These works allow us to observe the transformation of a radical young Russian dancer into the father of American Ballet. -- Page 4 of cover.
