The Prophet is a collection of 26 prose poetry stories written in English by the Lebanese-American poet and writer Kahlil Gibran. It was originally published in 1923 and is Gibran's best known work. The Prophet has been translated into over 100 different languages, making it one of the most translated books in history. It has never been out of print. Although Gibran was born into the Catholic faith, his views were also influenced by Islam. He believed in the fundamental unity of religions, which his parents exemplified by inviting people of every religion into their home. Themes that influence Khalil’s work include Islamic Arabic art, European Classicism (particularly Leonardo Davinci), Romanticism, The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and modern symbolism and realism. This beautiful reprint of the original book is unabridged and unedited, preserving The Prophet for your reading pleasure. Enjoy this wonderful piece of classic poetic literature! Excerpt: You often say, “I would give, but only to the deserving.” The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture. They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish.
