This Book Explores The Popular Reception Of Human Rights Ideas And Organizations In The Global South, The Name Scholars Often Use To Reference Countries With Lower Or Middling Incomes. We Focus On Such Countries For Two Reasons: First, The Severity Of Human Rights Abuse Is Often Correlated With Poverty, Inequality, And Authoritarianism. Although Countries In The Global North Have Many Of These Problems, Conditions Are Often More Severe Or Pervasive In The Global South. Second, Many Scholars And Even Practitioners Have Argued That Global North Actors Forced Contemporary Human Rights Perceptions, Ideas, And Methods On People And Groups Living In The Global South. Our Study Explores The Evidence For These Claims.--page Vii.
