Joanna and Stephen should be happy, but they're not. After the death of their baby there is torment between them, which is compounded when a woman leaps into the East River wearing one of Joanna's designs. Joanna embarks on a bizarre affair. Suspicious Stephen investigates and wishes he hadn't.
