The lure of gold means the hope of a short cut to riches. It provides an escape from a restricting or monotonous life. With the discovery of gold in the Yukon in 1896, Canadians were given the chance to pursue these two objectives. Within a few years of the first discovery, throusands of adventurers and fortune seekers from Canada and around the world poured through the mountain passes leading to the Klondike goldfields to try their luck.
