The limestone quarried in New Jersey is burned into lime or used for furnace flux. The output increased in value from $181,650 in 1902 to $187,711 in 1903. NEW MEXICO. A small quantity of limestone was quarried and burned into lime near Las Vegas, San Miguel County, N. Mex., in 1903. NEW YORK. Limestone valued at $2,543,756 was quarried in New York in 1903. The value for 1902 was $2,419,121; a slight increase in 1903. Limestone quarried for the manufacture of Portland cement is not included in the table. The value of this stone amounted to more than $100,000 in 1903. NORTH CAROLINA. A very small amount of limestone was quarried in North Carolina in 1903, and was burned into lime. OHIO. By reason of the decrease in the value of the limestone output in Illinois, Ohio changed its rank from third to second in the list of limestone-producing States. The value of the output in 1903 was $3,320,672, against $3,201,718 in 1902, an increase of $118,954. Crushed stone and blast-furnace flux increased in value, while building stone and lime decreased. Limestone quarried in Ohio for use in the manufacture of Portland cement, and amounting to over $50,000 in value, is not included in the total. OKLAHOMA. The value of the limestone reported from Oklahoma increased from $50,541 in 1902 to $54,690 in 1903, an increase of $4,149. OREGON. The limestone production of Oregon decreased from $20,133 in 1902 to $16,684 in 1903. PENNSYLVANIA. The value of the limestone quarried in Pennsylvania in 1903 was $5,775,506, as compared with $5,420,287 in 14)02, an increase of $355,219.
