The Historical Archaeology of Britain, c. 1540-1900 provides a much-needed overview of the increasingly important field of post-medieval archaeology in England, Wales and Scotland. It examines current theory and practice by using evidence from significant sites and projects all over the country. Unusually it is written from a national perspective, indeed it focuses on the largely neglected areas of north and west Britain in an attempt to redress the anglocentric and southern bias of most archaeological writing. The subject is divided into four sections: buildings archaeology, landscape archaeology, industrial archaeology and artefacts.
