Parks Canada was established as a federal government agency in 1998 with a mandate to protect & present nationally significant examples of Canada's natural & cultural heritage, and to foster public understanding, appreciation, & enjoyment in ways that ensure the ecological & commemorative integrity of these places for present & future generations. This annual report presents a profile of the Agency; a review of the context in which it operates; a summary of key activities during the year; and an assessment of Agency performance in achieving established goals related to the establishment of national heritage places, heritage resource protection, heritage presentation, visitor services, management of communities & highways within national parks, internal operations, & human resource management.
