Excerpt from National Treatment Study: 1994 The study covers both the banking and securities markets in 30 countries, and securities only in two additional countries. One chapter describes in detail the directives implementing the European Union's single market in financial services. There also is a consolidated chapter covering nine countries of the European Union (eu) and the European Free Trade Area (efta), focussing on the implementation of the EU directives at the national level. With the exception of the EU and efta chapters, each country chapter follows the same basic format: summary, description of the market, the presence of U. S. Financial institutions, and the treatment of u.s. Financial institutions. The China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan chapters also include sections describing bilateral discussions between the u.s. Treasury and the finance authorities in these markets and the progress that has been made in the talks. This National Treatment Study is current as of June 30, 1994.
