Love Letters from 1951 is a collection of letters written by Walter Davis and Bess Ice during their courtship in August of 1951 (the month they became engaged). Although originally from North Carolina, at that time Walter was living in Louisville, Kentucky, attending the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, pastoring a small church, and fulfilling his duties with the Army Reserves. Bess was living in southern Illinois, completing her college education, and serving as the Baptist Young Women’s Director for her home state. The letters reveal the providential way they came together. Bess and Walter were not only a young couple in love, they were also a couple devoted to a higher calling. They dreamed of serving in ministry together, and they saw their dreams come true.
