"This exhibition brings together works in the Colección Chocolate Cortés that focus on that gaze beyond the externally objective. The selection centers on - but not exclusively - Caribbean artists. Their region's culture is the result of a disparate and varied ethnogenesis, with a strong component of African origin. The Caribbean has created worldviews that look at reality through imaginaries that are very much its own. Fabulation, the presence of a living mythological thinking, syncretism, cultural neologisms, have great force here: they are means to interpret a complexly hybrid and dense universe of meanings, something that manifests itself in many works in this show"-- Gerardo Mosquera, from text.
