This book,which draws directly on the highly regarded "adaptive patterns" section of Bates/Plog's Cultural Anthropology,will focus on ethnographic case studies and discussion relating to distinctive forms of human food procurement: hunting and gathering,horticulture or low energy farming,pastoralism,intensive agriculture,and industrial society. Students are introduced to basic concepts and methods in anthropology in the course of reading about particular people and places.
