Every cattle drive that left Texas met with disaster. Men were killed, herds disappeared, and the few survivors who made it back home were broken and penniless. It was the work of the Jayhawkers: everyone knew, but no one could stop it. One Texas cattleman refused to be beaten. His name was Mike Gould, and after losing his own herd, he signed on with a drive that was headed straight for Jayhawker territory.
