The purposes of S. 52, the International Fisheries Stewardship and Enforcement Act, are to: strengthen and harmonize the enforcement provisions of U.S. statutes for implementing international fisheries agreements; authorize actions regarding foreign vessels engaged in illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing; authorize actions regarding the importation of IUU fish and fish product into the United States; create interagency programs for coordinating international fisheries enforcement and assistance to developing countries; make technical and clarifying changes to international fisheries statutes; and enact implementing legislation for the Antigua Convention.
