
The SCBRI model was developed to address the need for a reading instruction approach that not only focuses on linguistic abilities but also considers the social and cultural contexts of learners. By integrating reading theory, Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, and the Content-Based Instruction (CBI) approach, this model aims to enhance reading comprehension, particularly for learners of English as a second language (L2).
