
On 3 December 1984, In The Densely Populated Indian City Of Bhopal, There Was A Major Explosion In A Factory Producing Methyl Isocyanate Gas - A Highly Toxic Substance Which Is Used In Rubber And Adhesives - Which Released 47 Tons Of The Gas Into The Air. It Is Estimated That This Leak Caused More Than 7,000 People To Die Within Days, A Further 15,000 People To Die In The Following Years, And More Than 100,000 People Have Continued To Suffer From Chronic And Debilitating Illness. The Leak Also Contaminated The Groundwater, Which Continues To Affect The Quality Of Life Of The People In The Region. The Scale Of This Human Rights Impact Was Vast And Was Described By One Judge As The Largest Peacetime Industrial Disaster-- Provided By Publisher.
