This book attempts to answer the question of what happens in learning within the Singaporean context. The nation's efforts at educational development are closely examined, in conjunction with the underlying pedagogical philosophy that learning means developing personhood, to become a person, and to optimise personal potential. Challenges to educational policy-making are identified, including building a common platform and space of dialogue among educational researchers, policymakers and practitioners; adopting evidence-based educational policies; and achieving a good grasp of research methodology. The family and social milieu are also identified as important components that complete the approach to learning as both a social and individual undertaking.
