In December 1990, BC Parks and the BC Forest Service amalgamated their respective protected area planning programs into a combined planning initiative called Parks and Wilderness for the 90s. The overall goals for this process were to begin a long-term process of comprehensive and systematic planning for protected areas; to develop an inventory of potential areas of interest for park or wilderness which may be studied for these purposes in the future; and to integrate the goals of a system of provincial parks with those of a system of provincial forest wilderness areas. In February 1991, a series of open houses and meetings were sponsored across the province to solicit public advice on their planning process. This report summarizes from the record those contributions most directly related to the parks or wilderness programs. In addition to the general policy directions proposed, comments relating to specific areas were also summarized.
