Summer frosts can be a major cause of impaired growth and high mortality in conifer seedling plantations throughout the Cariboo Forest Region in central B.C. This guide presents a framework for management of frost-prone sites, reviewing factors that affect the occurrence of summer frost and providing a simple method for rating the risk of summer frost for tree seedlings on recently planted sites in the region. It also briefly summarizes silvicultural options for reducing frost damage to tree seedlings and describes some symptoms of frost damage.
