Plantation performance of Douglas-fir in the Coast-Interior Transition biogeoclimatic subzones has generally been poor and planting time has been frequently cited as one reason for this. This project examined plantation performance by time of planting in relation to site and climatic conditions, using the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index System. Twelve research plots in the Pemberton Valley and the Fraser Canyon were planted, four per year, two in each geographic area. Each location was divided into two sites, each of which had two 50-tree rows per planting date. Although 12 plots were begun, the ages of the various experiments and survival limited remeasurement to only five locations. All locations had been freshly clearcut-logged and slash burned.
