
The British Columbia solid wood products sector of the forest industry is well developed, mature and technologically advanced, and is largely directed to world wide marketing, sales, distribution and mass production of commodity lumber grades. This report presents a comprehensive and practical strategy to further develop value-added manufacture and marketing by establishing its economic significance and relationship to the primary and independent and remanufacturing processes; developing a model of the financial/economic benefits to be gained through specialty products manufacture; presenting a summary of market influences on specialty wood products; proposing a basis for cooperation and coordination between the primary and independent remanufacturing processes of the wood products industry; and through suggesting methods to expand the market.
