Mayuko is a girl from a poor family who longs to make a change in her life. She goes to school and works multiple jobs, but her freeloading roommate NieA further complicates the situation. NieA is one of many alien outcasts who have integrated themselves into human society. Ironically, Mayuko feels more out of place than NieA, but perhaps she can learn something about herself from her irritating lodger.
